About reportsia

A news production team working to broadcast deadlines

We are a small Swansea company that films, edits and delivers television news. This page explains how we work, what guides our decisions and what you can expect from us.

A news production team working to broadcast deadlines

How the company came about

reportsia started in 2012 in Swansea with a simple idea: television news needs reliable crews who can reach a story quickly and hand over footage that is ready to use. The company has stayed small on purpose. That keeps decisions close to the work.

The early years were spent covering local stories for broadcasters who needed extra hands on the ground. Those jobs taught us what producers value most: arriving on time, getting the shot that matters and delivering files that work first time without a call to fix them.

Over time the work grew from filming into the whole chain. We added a lit studio for interviews, an edit suite for finished packages and portable kit for live link-ups. Each addition came from a client asking for something we could not yet supply.

Today the team is four people with distinct roles: a managing producer, a lead camera operator, a senior editor and a studio and lighting technician. Everyone knows how the others work, which cuts the time lost to handovers and misunderstandings.

We also help in-house news teams improve their own routines. That means advice on shot logging, file handling and quick-turn production, passed on in plain terms by the people who do this work every week.

We keep the company at a size where the person who takes your call is the person who understands the job. If a commission needs more than we can do well, we say so at the start rather than stretch the work thin.

A story does not wait for us, so we built the company around being ready. Accuracy and calm matter more to a producer than anything we could promise.

How we work

Working habits behind every commission

Principles are only useful when they change what happens on the day. These are the working habits our crews and editors follow, and what each one means for your production team.

Services
  • Deadline-led planning

We work back from your transmission time, so crew, edit and delivery are scheduled around when you actually need the material.

  • Checked before sent

A producer reviews every package for accuracy and balance before delivery, so your editor receives something close to final.

  • Kit that is ready

Cameras, lights and audio gear are maintained and packed in advance, so a call-out begins with travel rather than troubleshooting.

  • Clear communication

You get plain updates from a named producer, including bad news such as access problems, so you can adjust your plans early.

What guides our decisions

  1. Accuracy

We check names, places and claims against what you supply and what we see. If a detail cannot be confirmed, we flag it rather than guess, so your bulletin stays reliable.

  2. Speed

Speed means a short chain from request to crew, not rushed work. We keep decisions simple and kit ready so footage reaches you in time to be used.

  3. Fairness

Interviews and edits keep context intact, and different voices are given room. We aim for packages that a broadcaster can stand behind without second thoughts.

In practice

What working with us looks like day to day

Most of our commissions begin with a short message or call. A producer asks a few questions about the story, the place, your deadline and the format you need, then confirms in writing what we can do and who will be involved.

On the day, the crew travels with kit chosen for the job. For a fast-moving event that usually means a handheld camera, a spare battery set and a way to send material quickly. For an interview it means lights and sound gear set up before the guest arrives.

Back in the studio, footage is logged and passed to the editor with notes from the shoot. The editor builds the package to your running time and adds voice-over and graphics where requested. The producer then reviews the cut.

We deliver files in the format your channel asks for and confirm what has been sent. If the story develops, we can supply extra cuts or further filming, agreed with you in writing before any additional work begins.

Many clients are television producers and news editors who need a dependable extra crew rather than a full production partner. Others are in-house teams wanting help with workflow. We adapt to either way of working.

What you can rely on

  • A named producer from booking to handover
  • Written confirmation of scope before work starts
  • Crew with their own kit and transport
  • Footage logged and labelled for easy ingest
  • Packages cut to your stated running time
  • Files delivered in the format your channel specifies
